Mercaptopurine is used to treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Mercaptopurine is sometimes given with other cancer medications. Mercaptopurine is also used off-label for autoimmune conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Crohn’s disease (a condition in which the body attacks the lining of the digestive tract causing pain, diarrhea, weight loss, and fever), and ulcerative colitis (condition in which sores develop in the intestines causing pain and diarrhea).
